5 great areas to live in near Fort Lewis - Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM). FT. Lewis and JBLM have a few cities near by. JBLM has 5 gates available and access to their Soldiers and Airmen at all times. With about a few cities surrounding the area it can be hard to determine where to live. Here are my top five:
Dupont and Steilacoom : They are both very close to each other and very near North Fort Lewis. I would range the homes in these neighborhoods in the $590k - $700k range. They are very nice neighborhoods with HOA's living mostly about $60 - $75 dollars a month. They are surrounded by kiddie playgrounds and plenty of running and walking trails.
Lacey: Lacey is what I call city life. The houses in the Lacey area are label as cookie cutters, probably because many builders have the same style of layout. Most of the homes in the lacey area are two story homes, small - medium backyard. 3-4 bedrooms prices range from $480k to upper $500k. To get to post it will be necessary to take I-5 highway. This highway is not for the impatient driver. One accident on I-5 can set you back getting home for another 30 minutes.
Olympia: Olympia covers a wide area and cannot be described in just two or three sentences. These houses can be similar to Lacey homes or can be ranch and country style living with big area lots. They can be sewer connected or septic. It can be as close to Tumwater and Olympia Mall. Olympia's downtown area is really nice too.
Yelm: Yelm provides a feel of country and green area living. This is an affordable small city near Roy and Graham. If you enjoy country living and space for your horses this is the place. You get the most land for your hard earned. These are great areas if you are looking for homes with stables or want to a little more yard space for farm animals.
Tacoma: Tacoma is North of Ft. Lewis and is home of the Tacoma Mall. Tacoma is known for its commerce and many industrial and warehouses. It is very affordable and minutes from most restaurants, shops and post.
